Junta Escalates Aerial Attacks Following Extensions of Unlawful State of Emergency

Following its failed attempt to seize state power, the terrorist military junta has continually carried out violent acts nationwide. Each time it extended the state of emergency for the purpose of consolidating its power, its aerial bombardments have become increasingly severe.
A review of airstrike records between January and August 2025 shows that when the junta extended the state of emergency for the seventh time in February, the number of aerial attacks surged significantly, reaching 436 documented incidents.
This clearly demonstrates that the military junta escalates its campaign of violence in line with its attempts to prolong its illegitimate rule.
The junta’s terrorist airstrikes continued to rise, reaching a record peak of 508 incidents in April 2025, coinciding with a period when the country was struggling with the devastating impact of a major earthquake. April has thus been recorded as the month with the highest number of airstrikes.
After that, in August, the number of airstrikes surged again to 493. This period represents a phase in which, under the pretext of a legitimate need for guidance to hold illegal elections, the so-called State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) was restructured as part of the military junta’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its illegitimate power.
These data provide concrete evidence that the terrorist military junta has intensified its campaign of aerial violence, deliberately targeting civilians as part of its efforts to maintain illegitimate power. The full record of these incidents, including civilian casualties, has been systematically documented by the Ministry of Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG).
