A brief overview of Myanmar military’s airstrike and massive shelling on the village of Letyet Kone Village in Debayin Township
On 16th September 2022, at least the two Mi 35 attack helicopter of Myanmar Military Council attacked a primary monastic school headed by the local CDM teachers and villagers in Letyet Kone Village,Debayin Township, Sagaing Region.
It was the school hours, and the children were studying inside. The two helicopters were shooting at the school building intentionally for 45 minutes.
Mg Saw Min Oo @ Mg Baw Gyi, who was working in fishery in Inpin village, was shot to dead by the terrorist army's airstrike.
Meanwhile, the Military Council troops arrested and shot Mg Aung Aung Oo, a 16-year-old boy, who was hiding under a nearby bridge from the airstrikes.
In addition, the Military Council troops raided the school compound and shot minor children/ students to dead. According to the local people who witnessed the incident, a total of 6 students were killed in action.
Only the names of 3 of the 6 deceased students can be revealed and the investigation is still ongoing. They are 7-year-old Bhone Tayza, 7-year-old Su Yati Hlaing and 14-year-old Phoe Thar.
In addition, 7 residents of Letyet Kone village were also killed due to the violent attack by the military council soldiers. The 7 deaths are 49-year-old U Kyaw Tun, 34-year-old U Aung Saw Htwe, 31-year-old U Tin Soe Khaing, 37-year-old Ma Yu, 16-year-old Mg Aung Aung Oo, 22-year-old Mg Aung Chit Moe and 13-year-old Mg Saw Min Oo @ Mg Baw Gyi.
The ground forces of the Military Council arrested over 20 students and teachers who were trapped in the school as the soldiers blockaded the campus and abducted them into Ye U township.
Besides the act of violence, they burned houses, properties, animals in the village down and were continuously shooting and shelling at the village and nearby.
As the consequences,currently, the local people from the villages , Nyang Hla, Thit Tone, Muu Sone, Muu Khan, Nyaung Gyi Kone, Inpin, near Letyet Kone village are also fleeing from the terrorist military council troops.
Besides this tragedy, abducting the students from the school of Let Pan Kyin village, Myin Mu Township, Sagaing Region as hostages in last August had proved that the military council has been intentionally committing war crimes, targeting not only civilians, but also children and schools.
In addition, in Yin Mar Bin township, Sagaing Region during February 2022, the military council also committed the war crime of taking 80 preschool students as hostages and used them as human shields.
