The National Union Government (NUG) and the group of human rights experts led by Mr. Tom Andrews, the UN Special Rapporteur (UNSR) on the situation of human rights in Myanmar meet today.

The meeting was held between the MOHR and the UNSR and attended by the Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) Union Minister U Aung Myo Min and MOHR advisory board member Daw Myint Myint San from the National Union Government (NUG) and Mr. Tom Andrews and his legal advisors from the UN.

Mr. Andrews said that his team is investigating the current human rights violations and he will continue to fulfill his tasks under the SR mandate to present the Myanmar situation at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Union Minister U Aung Myo Min discussed that he is working toward the government which is respectful of human rights, working to issue out a position paper very soon on the very issue that the whole world is waiting to hear, meanwhile not forgetting current human rights abuses and violation, and that setting work plans to seek out as well as bring the truth and justice.

Under the mandate that given, the Special Rapporteur also added that he is gathering and investigating information, that he provides advice and recommendations to quickly stop all forms of human rights abuses and violations, that he welcomes the NUG for clearly setting position on human rights and for further collaboration and cooperation, and that he pledged to work together to stop HRVs by engaging effectively within the UN process and procedure.
