UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
<\/strong>34th<\/sup> special session on the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine
<\/strong>stemming from the Russian aggression<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar welcomes the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council\u2019s convening of the 34th<\/sup><\/strong> special session on the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from the Russian aggression<\/strong>, and the adoption of its corresponding resolution.<\/p>

Myanmar joins the collective condemnation of the reported violations and abuses of human rights and serious violations of international humanitarian law in Ukraine, as documented by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Reported atrocity crimes by Russian armed forces and affiliated armed groups include summary executions, torture, enforced disappearances, and sexual violence including against children.<\/p>

As the High Commissioner stated to the Council, \u201cthe only way to bring a stop to further violations is to end the hostilities\u201d. Myanmar therefore supports the Human Rights Council\u2019s demand that the Russian Federation cease all military hostilities against Ukraine, and that it provide the UN with unhindered, timely, immediate, unrestricted and safe access to persons who have been transferred from conflict-affected areas of Ukraine and are held on the territory of the Russian Federation or areas controlled or occupied by the Russian Federation.<\/p>

Accountability \u2013 including for crimes against humanity, war crimes and other crimes under international law \u2013 must then follow.<\/p>

Myanmar continues to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
